A
BRIEF HISTORY OF HELIX
What's
with the Volkswagens?
The
very first Helix delivery vehicle was a 1957 Volkswagen. That
was on September 4, 1968. The next vehicle was a 1964 Volkswagen.
And so it went. In the years after Sieg and Al Pedde started Helix,
there were VWs galore.
After
being driven what always seemed to be far too few miles (that
view was coloured by our budget, not by the reality that the cars
were sturdy and dependable), they invariably ended up at Corey's
Auto Wreckers. Since initially all of our vehicles were painted
bright orange, there was a sea of orange metal at Corey's in those
days.
Well,
those days are gone. Sieg
Pedde was 23 years old when Helix started in 1968. His
brother Alfred was 18. Sieg dropped out of the University of Western
Ontario to devote all of his time to Helix, Alfred gave up his
intention of pursuing a career in construction. Alfred left Helix
in 1985, but Sieg is still here.
In
the early days, Helix was strictly a messenger service -- local
door-to-door delivery in London. Now, Helix works with other courier
companies collaboratively to allow us to deliver your goods around
the world. We've come a long way. You've told us what you needed,
and we've (excuse the upcoming pun) delivered.
Some
of our drivers and inside staff have been with us for over twenty
years. They know the courier and messenger business. They know
what really counts in our mission to serve our customers. Because
of our dedication to service, we have a large, loyal customer
base.
But
none of us are content to live in the past. Helix is a company
with a future. We don't want to take over the world, just provide
better service, more efficiently, in the London, Ontario area.
We want to take advantage of the newest technology to help us
communicate with our customers and our drivers. Above all, we
want to continue to offer good, old-fashioned, dependable, reasonably-priced
service to our customers. That's you. You are responsible for
our success. We know that. We will continue to do our very best
for you in the decades ahead.
